On May 20, 2013, after a two week jury trial, a jury convicted Mitchell J. Stein, an attorney for Signalife, Inc. (Signalife), on all fourteen counts related to a five-year, multi-million dollar market manipulation fraud scheme. Signalife, a South Carolina health care device company was later known as Heart Tronics, Inc., and the company's stock was traded under the symbols SGN and HRTT. Stein is being detained until sentencing, which has been rescheduled for February 10, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Marra in Courtroom 4. At sentencing, Stein could receive a maximum of 20 years in prison each on the mail and wire fraud counts; up to 25 years for each of the securities fraud counts; up to 10 years for each of three money laundering counts; and five years for conspiracy to obstruct justice.
